How BCBSRI coverage works
- In-network: We're in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, including BlueChip, for Medical Nutrition Therapy.
- We verify benefits for you: Our team can verify benefits for BCBSRI and UnitedHealthcare. Before your appointment, we'll let you know your estimated coverage and any expected out-of-pocket costs whenever possible.
- Coverage varies by plan. Coverage varies by plan, and the patient is ultimately responsible for costs. Deductibles, copays, or coinsurance may apply depending on your policy.
- Referrals: Many patients don't need a referral. If your plan requires one, we'll let you know and help you get it.
- Out-of-state Blue Cross or BCBS Federal (FEP): We bill through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island and are out-of-network with Blue Cross plans from other states. For out-of-state BCBS and FEP plans, we can only confirm that your policy is active; we can't verify your nutrition benefits. Your plan may apply deductibles, coinsurance, copays, or non-covered services, so please call the member services number on your insurance card before your visit.
- Group visits: Coverage for group Medical Nutrition Therapy varies by plan. We'll help you review your options before you enroll.
- Other ways to pay: We accept HSA and FSA funds. If your plan doesn't cover nutrition care, private-pay options are available.
