Functional Nutrition

Functional Nutrition

Functional Nutrition integrates an individual’s biochemistry, environmental triggers and responses, along with science-based research to create a path to healing. Our licensed healthcare practitioners work with each patient to engage their body’s own natural healing mechanisms. Many chronic conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, neuropathy, brain fog, long-haul Covid, anxiety, insomnia and headaches often are related to impaired immune responses, micronutrient deficiencies, biotoxins or other toxicities.

Our dietitians will always use food first to heal the body. Registered dietitians are the experts in food science and we know that healthy food and a healthy lifestyle are at the foundation of optimal health. We spend time listening carefully to each patient, including their medical history, family history, symptoms, timelines and potential triggers. Our certified integrative and functional dietitians are trained in the complex interactions between genetics, environmental triggers, nutrition and lifestyle that may be contributing to their illness. A functional plan sometimes includes specialized lab testing* to determine the underlying cause of illness in order to treat a patient accordingly. Functional nutrition may also include incorporating nutrition supplements when needed to detox, replete, restore and heal the body.

FUNCTIONAL WELLNESS FAQ’S

How much should I expect to pay?

Functional nutrition therapy is medical nutrition therapy and billed through your health insurance company. If your health insurance plan covers medical nutrition therapy with a registered dietitian, then your appointments will be covered in the same way. If your insurance does not cover medical nutrition therapy, we do offer a private pay option.

Please email us to verify your insurance benefits or contact your health insurance company directly and ask about coverage for medical nutrition therapy with a registered dietitian. You will be responsible for any copays and deductibles at the time of your visit.

Do you accept insurance for laboratory testing?

Most routine blood work is covered by standard insurance plans, and we can work with your primary care physician or specialist to order many labs. However, many of our functional tests will be out of pocket and will not be covered by health insurance. Many patients opt to use their HSA funds to purchase functional tests.

What type of laboratory testing do you do?

Our providers use a variety of outside specialty labs to best support your health journey. We are well versed in a wide variety of urine, saliva, breath, stool, blood and home safety studies including food sensitivity and gastrointestinal health studies, brain and neurochemistry studies, genetic markers, micronutrient deficiencies, as well as heavy metal, Lyme disease, mold, mycotoxin and biotoxin testing. Our practice offers specialized testing from Vibrant Wellness and KBMO Diagnostics.

What if I need nutrition supplements?

We offer many physician-grade nutrition supplements at deep discounts through our Fullscript Dispensary. Supplements are conveniently drop-shipped directly to you.

Your dietitian may recommend protocols for patients dealing with varying degrees of chronic illness, infection and symptoms. Protocols are step-by-step approaches that touch on the main aspects of health restoration that are foundational for detoxifying, healing and achieving optimal health. These science-based protocols include diving deep into each phase of healing. These phases may include energy & drainage, gut & immune support, whole body immune support, and systemic detox. If you are dealing with moderate or intense levels of chronic illness, or just want to detoxify on a regular basis in order to feel your best, detox protocols are designed to provide you with the guided roadmap on you journey towards complete health restoration and optimal wellness.
