Neuro-Nutrition at RINT
What is Nutritional Psychiatry?
Megan Martin, RDN, LDN, specializes in providing nutrition therapy for those with various psychological, neurological, or neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, neurodegenerative diseases, and more.
Research has shown that nutritional and lifestyle factors can greatly affect our risk for developing these conditions as well as the severity of these conditions when present. Certain nutrients are used to create and maintain important brain structures, as well as synthesize the neurochemicals, like serotonin, that are vital in controlling our mood, motivation, ability to focus, cognition, and much more. With this, a new field in healthcare has emerged called Nutritional Psychiatry. This is the practice of using food, therapeutic diets or supplements as alternative treatments for conditions affecting the brain and mental health, or utilizing these nutritional interventions to complement traditional treatments for these conditions.
